The Velvet Girl (“we,” “us,” “our”) operates thevelvetgirl.com. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
Who we are. This site is operated by The Velvet Girl LLC, a Florida limited liability company. You can reach us any time at naida@thevelvetgirl.com.
Information we collect
Information you give us directly:
- Your name and email address when you subscribe to the newsletter
- Your name, email address, and message when you use the contact form
- Your name, email address, and comment text when you comment on an article
Information collected automatically when you visit:
- Pages viewed, time spent on a page, and the site that referred you
- Approximate location (country or region), derived from your IP address
- Device type, browser, and operating system
This is collected through Google Analytics, loaded via Google Tag Manager. Our web host also keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies for:
- Essential functionality — remembering your theme preference (light or dark mode) and, if you have an account, keeping you signed in.
- Analytics — understanding which content is popular and how visitors move through the site, via Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.
- Advertising — Google AdSense may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings or the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page.
- Pinterest — if you arrive from or share content to Pinterest, a Pinterest tag helps measure that traffic.
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Most browsers also let you send a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal; where the law requires us to honor that signal, we do.
The newsletter
We use Kit (formerly ConvertKit) to store newsletter subscriptions and send emails. When you subscribe, your name and email address are stored on Kit’s servers and handled under Kit’s own privacy policy. Kit records whether emails are opened and which links are clicked so we can tell what readers find useful.
Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list immediately. You can also email us and we’ll remove you by hand.
How we use information
- To send the newsletter and any freebies you asked for
- To respond to messages sent through the contact form
- To operate and improve the site, including understanding what content resonates
- To moderate and display comments on articles
- To serve and measure advertising
Third parties we work with
Each of these has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data:
| Service | What it handles |
|---|---|
| Google (Analytics, Tag Manager, AdSense) | Site analytics and advertising — policies.google.com/privacy |
| Kit | Newsletter signup, storage, and delivery |
| Measuring traffic from and to Pinterest | |
| Hostinger | Web hosting and server logs |
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
How long we keep information
- Newsletter subscriptions — until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them
- Contact form messages — up to 24 months, then deleted
- Comments — for as long as the article stays published
- Analytics data — according to Google’s retention settings, currently 14 months
